Was listening to Catholic radio the other night and heard a statement I found very interesting.

As we know Martin Luther left the church to start Lutheranism but his mother remained true to the Catholic faith. When she was older and dying she wrote her son and asked him if she should become Lutheran. His reply to her was “While it is good to be Lutheran when living it is better to be Catholic when dying”

Has anyone else heard this statement? What is your take on what I see as an unusual statement considering it is coming from the founder of Lutherism?

Just finished reading a couple of books by Joshua Harris named “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” and the followup “Boy Meets Girl”. In these books Joshua relates a lot of his own life and those of others he has known or been in contact with during his life. He is a Christian author though not catholic but has very good points that can be carried over to anyone that believes in God.

To the sum up the books it is being said that a person should not think of dating a member of the opposite sex as that usually has too casual an attitude and often leads to the physical all to quickly. One should not approach a member of the opposite sex for a close relationship unless they have reached a level of maturity that they are ready for the possibility of marriage. Where this used to be more described as courting when a young gentleman would call upon a lady with the final result of their courting would be marriage thus adding a much more seriousness for it is no casual thing to involve anyone else’s emotions to a point of intimacy(and I do not mean sex by the use of the word but emotional) and not be serious.

He is not saying you should avoid members of the opposite sex if you are not interested in marrying them but to form good healthy friendships and respect them as if they were your sister or brother. Don’t put yourself in situations where it could lead to temptations that should not be acted upon. Interact with them in groups of friends and around their families to really get to know them first.

Though these books are written with the younger adult in mind they do have many good points that can certainly be adapted to older adults who have found that an emptiness to the type of dating that society pushes and overloads us with in books, magazines, movies, and TV.

Though our author chose to not even kiss till his wedding he does state that the choices and rules he made for himself would not necersarly apply to everyone and that these decisions must be made by each individual.

I plan to try and post on some of the better points of his books.

We definitely need to show more respect in our thoughts and actions to the opposite sex. All to often they are viewed from strictly a sexual point of view and I have heard men and women both do this all to often. These people are not objects but someone’s daughter or son, brother or sister. This fact can not be overlooked and we must think of other people as our brothers and sisters in humanity even if you are not a religious person.

Item 1

Surprised our good Deacon or Fric hasn’t jumped over to put this up but the Deacon sent it by email to our little circle of bloggers so I will put up a bit of his email.

WARNING this is very offensive and we could not believe it actually rated mentioning in a section of the Louisville Courier Journal our newpaper. It show an utter lack of sensitivity what so ever to a large part of the population in the area that is catholic much less some of the merchandise the jerk is selling promoting a love of abortion should outrage any person who has a respect for life no matter what there religion.

” Be ready to be offended.

If you haven’t seen “The Buzz” section in Today’s courier Journal – here’s the website it refers to. This was above the fold, picture at the top – first article on the left hand Column of the Features section.

http://www.saintclinton.com/

This is news?

This is worth giving notice too?

Yes, when the last line is about that “Clinton’s canonization is great compared with the current president”. (Propaganda put forth as news yet again.)

What offends me most is taking a image of great reverence from MY FAITH and applying it to a human being, particularly one as morally bankrupt and self serving as him.”

I hope any and all who see this here and is offended by it as we are that they would please send a note of displeasure to both the owner of this site and the newspaper for promoting it by making it seem like news.

Item 2

While wandering around in a Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Indianapolis area today I something stood out to me that I hadnt really noticed before that I think is a good warning sign of just how fast our basic society is sinking. A section of books about 4 feet wide and 5 feet tall with the title of Gay and Lesbian section. I find it dishearten to see it so promontories display where any including teenagers or pretence could walk up and start taking in all the titles of how to have a good gay relationship(definitely sounds like a contradiction in terms to me) or titles saying its okay to be gay. Its hard enough for our people young or old these days to have a healthy relationship let alone this trash out there for any confused soul to start reading. Another thing is there even an age limit on who can purchase these books or even the ones that promote great physical relationships. Can you 16 year old teenager just pick up a copy without the parent being the wiser. This is something that should definitely be looked into even if there is no pornographic material in them they can still be just as dangerous. Of course I am sure there would be some liberals out there that would sream freedom of speech and all that but lets cut down to the basic fact that some material is not appropriate for those under eighteen and even older then that from the level of maturity we are seeing in today’s world.

Croatia clergy in drink curbs row

Drinking wine is a key part of Holy CommunionCroatia’s Catholic priests are seeking compensation after the introduction of a new zero-tolerance drink driving law, a local newspaper says.

The priests want $12 million a year to hire chauffeurs as they can no longer drive between churches where they must sip wine, the Jutarnji List said.

“During holy mass we need to drink wine as a symbol of the blood of Christ,” one of the priests told the newspaper.

“We want to obey the law… We would like to have private drivers,” he said.

“Some priests have many services a day and these are often in different parishes, so they need to use a car to get around. If they can’t drive themselves, someone else has to do it,” the priest added.

Some 2,000 priests in the strongly Roman Catholic country said they each wanted a driver for five hours a day, the newspaper said.

In August, Croatia reduced the 0.05% limit for blood-alcohol content to zero in an effort to improve road safety.

The measure was introduced despite protests from both the Catholic Church and also the tourist industry.

Seems to me a viable alternative to this would be to ask the parish people that are retired or others who would just like to donate their time to drive them to different locations to say Mass without taking the possibility of breaking the automotive operating laws.

I think it has become a sad state indeed if there was not enough parish people to do this simple task that would take a small amount of time.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Heavenly Father, on this day of remembrence we come to you with humble hearts and filled with love for You and our fellow man…

Father, all praise and glory are Yours and we wish to exalt Your Holy Name to all who can hear. We know that all that is Good is of You and that anything that is Bad is not of You. We thank you Lord for the gifts you have given us. Life, family, friends, a place to live, food to eat and clothes to wear. We thank You most of all for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, in the Most Blessed Sacrament. May we always be worthy to receive Him.

Father, today we humbly beseech You to accept the souls of those September 11, 2001 martyrs at the hands of Islamicists into Your caring and lovong hands. We pray Lord that these poor souls are now at peace with You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I believe they experienced a kind of martyr’s death 3 years ago and pray that they now reside with You.

Father send us the Holy Spirit to fill us with Sanctifying Grace. Guide us with wisdom, faith, love and charity to follow Your path for us. Help us O Lord to act as You would have us act as we deal with others and in how we respond to events like September 11th. If it be Your will, help us to pursue the proper justice and protect our nation and other nations from further attacks.

May the Holy Spirit guide our national leaders to protect us in accordance to Your will and to support the unborn, protect marriage as You have given it to us, protect the sick and dying and all innocent human life because we are made in Your image. May we deal with non-innocent life in a just and proper way.

We pray that your guiding hand will touch the heart of all and bring to them the understanding of the Gospel and conversion. May we all soon be One as Christ prayed in the Garden.

We entrust these petitions through the Immaculate Heart of Mary to Christ Jesus.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

I hadn’t realized the Church community was so active on the web. Have the American bishops or the Vatican or anybody in authority put out any sort of word on all these blogs and sites? Is it a no no, or a cool thing, or just silence, or…? Just curious if there is an official position on the marvels of modern communication within the community of the faithful.

(CBS/AP) An 8-year-old girl who suffers from a rare digestive disorder and cannot consume wheat has had her first Holy Communion declared invalid because the wafer contained none, violating Catholic doctrine. Now Haley Waldman’s mother, Elizabeth Pelly-Waldman, is pushing the Diocese of Trenton and the Vatican to make an exception, saying the girl’s condition — celiac sprue disease — should not exclude her from participating in the sacrament, in which Roman Catholics eat consecrated wheat-based wafers to commemorate the last supper of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion. Haley’s first communion was a magical event, other than having to wear a dress, which the tomboy hated, it went off without a hitch. Then her mother found out that church officials invalidated her daughter’s sacrament, reports CBS News Correspondent Elizabeth Kaledin. “In my mind, I think they must not understand celiac,” said Pelly-Waldman, 30. “It’s just not a viable option. How does it corrupt the tradition of the Last Supper? It’s just rice versus wheat.” It’s more than that, according to church doctrine, which holds that communion wafers must have at least some unleavened wheat, as did the bread served at the Last Supper. The Diocese of Trenton has told Waldman’s mother that the girl can receive a low-gluten host, drink wine at communion or abstain entirely, but that any host without gluten does not qualify as Holy Communion. Pelly-Waldman rejected the offer, saying even a small amount of gluten could harm her child. Gluten is a food protein contained in wheat and other grains. “This is not an issue to be determined at the diocesan or parish level, but has already been decided for the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world by Vatican authority,” said Bishop John M. Smith. “Hosts that are completely gluten-free are invalid matter for the celebration of the Eucharist,” Smith said in a prepared statement released by the diocese. Celiac sprue disease, an autoimmune disorder, occurs in people with a genetic intolerance of gluten. When consumed by celiac sufferers, gluten damages the lining of the small intestine, blocking nutrient absorption and leading to vitamin deficiencies, bone-thinning and sometimes gastrointestinal cancer. Some Catholic churches allow the use of no-gluten hosts, others don’t, according to Elaine Monarch, executive director of the Celiac Disease Foundation, a Studio City, Calif.-based support group for sufferers. “It is a dilemma,” said Monarch. “It is a major frustration that someone who wants to follow their religion is restricted from doing so because some churches will not allow it.” “It is an undue hardship on a person who wants to practice their religion and needs to compromise their health to do so,” Monarch said. Haley Waldman, a shy, brown-haired tomboy who loves surfing and hates to wear a dress, was diagnosed with the disorder at 5. “I’m on a gluten-free diet because I can’t have wheat, I could die,” she said in an interview Wednesday. Last year, in anticipation of the Brielle Elementary School third grader reaching Holy Communion age, her mother told officials at St. Denis Catholic Church in Manasquan that the girl could not have the standard host. The church’s pastor, the Rev. Stanley P. Lukaszewski, told her that a gluten-free substitute was unacceptable. But a priest at a nearby parish contacted Pelly-Waldman after learning about the dilemma, volunteering to administer the sacrament using a gluten-free host. She said she won’t identify the priest or his parish for fear of repercussions from diocese. On May 2, Waldman — wearing a white communion dress — made her first Holy Communion in a ceremony at the priest’s church. Her mother, who also suffers from celiac and had not received communion since her diagnosis four years ago, also received. But last month, the diocese told the priest that Waldman’s sacrament would not be validated by the church because of the substitute wafer. “I struggled with telling her that the sacrament did not happen,” said Pelly-Waldman. “She lives in a world of rules. She says, ‘Mommy, do we want to break a rule? Are we breaking a rule?'” Now, the mother is seeking papal intervention. She has written to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome, challenging the church’s policy. “This is a church rule, not God’s will, and it can easily be adjusted to meet the needs of the people, while staying true to the traditions of our faith,” Pelly-Waldman said in the letter. For her part, Pelly-Waldman — who attends Mass every Sunday with her four children — said she is not out to bash the church, just to change the policy that affects her daughter. “I do believe that the church can grow and change to meet the needs of the people and now we need to show them that there is a need,” Pelly-Waldman said.

This is a month old, but Newsmax just ran the story so it will likely get mentioned some more…

Last summer UNC got in trouble and embarrassed for mistreatment of Christians. They are at it again by telling a Christian group that it cannot be a Christian group. In other words, they have to let in atheists, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. etc. Last year Christian groups were told they couldn’t restrict officers to Christians. Imagine that!

UNC backed down then.

Will they now?

Story Here.

OK. What to say here? Are we to be glad to see a pro-abortion governor gone? Or are we saddened to see what heart-ache and pain this is going to cause this man’s wife and children?

He had to come out and step down because it was going to cause conflicts for the state government? Was someone going to blackmail him? If so, was there something else going on here?

This is why the life issues are so important. This is why being chaste according to your status is so important.

On the other hand, I can also see some made for cable movies made about this man and the courageous choice he has made. All for the glory of homosexuality, never mind if that is why he came out or if he stays with his family. He will become an icon of the left most likely.
