If you’ve been following along on the blog (and what troopers THAT would make you!), you’ve noticed the updated colors and layout recently…

Well, I have finally done more and added several links and blogs to the list on the right. I also plan on adding some more pages that contain links to Catholic documents, topics, articles and a bunch of other stuff.

Hopefully I can shame the other Maniacs into posting here soon. 🙂 Would like to see us hit at least 2 posts a day. Keep an eye out… We will be way more active than the last year or so. More to come on that too.

Later!

Ah yes… The Maniacs.

Where have we all gone?

Well, that’s a good question. I know Deacon is busy with family and… well, Diaconate classes as well as being a team member for a local group doing regular talks on the faith.

Heathenboy is also busy with family and his true passion in life. Football. He’s busy studying all possibilities for the coming Fantasy Football Season and his Ronald Wilson Reagan Fantasy Football League.

Guvnur is busy with a new sitch in Indianapolis so we don’t even get to see him much.

So… What’s your excuse, Fric?

Huh? What? Me? Oh. Well… Ah. Hmmmmmmnnnnnn….

Thinking…

Thinking…

OK. Besides the 2.5 to 3 hours on the road to and from work, side projects and trying to get an adult catechesis series started at my parish, I really have no excuse. I long for the days when I worked from home mostly. I could post any time I felt like it. Now it takes serious mental effort. Plus I have been in something of a writing funk for a while. I had so much I wanted to say about the death of John Paul the Great and the election of the new Pope, Benedict XVI. But I just couldn’t get coherent to do it.

I hope to get some projects in and posted here soon though. I am working on a defense and explanation of the Real Presence for the wife of a colleague at work. She is a lapsed Catholic, now a Southern Baptist. Her mom is desperate to get her back into the Church and keeps trying to get her to receive Communion. Of course this is a no-no and the daughter won’t do it. But she did ask her husband about the RP and whether we think it’s actually the flesh and blood.

So, I am going to put together what I hope will be a short tract and give her a copy. Maybe that will help them both understand the faith a bit more. I will post it here when done.

In addition I am working on the outline we will be using for our 4 part series, The ABC’s of Being Catholic, that will kick off our adult catechesis series. We will be doing a quick overview of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and doing a Q&A after each session. If it goes decently, this will kick off a weekly series of talks. I will probably post that here as well.

Beyond that, I have bunch of other projects in mind, but don’t think I will get to many of them this summer. Not unless I start working from home again. And that would be bad for the bank account since that usually means I am between major consulting gigs.

OK, I am 5 days late with the Blogiversary announcement…

We’ve been here a year now and though we have slowed considerably of late, we’re still not going away.

I have had about a hundred or so ideas and thoughts I have wanted to blog on in the last several weeks… The murder of Terri Schiavo… The death of Pope John Paul the Great… The impact of the Pope on life and culture… The new catechetical/evangelization talks I am putting together for my parish…

So much to do. Hopefully going to blog some more today. In the mean time…

Happy Blogiversary Catholic Maniacs!

Hey Mr. Fric, as our official unofficial moderator leader, something for you to look into. I posted a comment, and of course my HeathenBoy turned into a link. Well, it doesn’t link to a profile as I expected, it linked to a blog at http://strengthandhonor.typepad.com/. Its a guy in Iraq. Weird wild small online world man. Here’s a sample, and it is excellent stuff.

Two words I wish had never been put together to form a cliche’

Exit Strategy. Every time I hear some nitwit use this euphemism for retreat I get annoyed. Exercising or even looking for an “exit strategy” other than victory is leaving a job half done and it dooms tens of thousands more to horrible painful deaths. I suppose some people think this really is all just a big chess game. The striking things about this place, like most of the other third-world places that I have visited are the contrasts. There is garbage everywhere, children missing limbs, huge opulent palaces that used to be occupied by Saddam and his cronies, to name just a few. You can tell the ones that are “better off” immediately by the fact that their clothes are clean. This is going to be an interesting year. One thing is sure: This will take longer than one year before we can even think about “exiting.” It will take as long as it takes.

Now its quite an honor to be associated even in this tangential way with this great guy, but how in the world does my HeathenBoy get linked to this fella?

Well, I guess it’s not a matter of enthusiasm so much as a hectic schedule. I had hoped when we opened the Maniacs Blog to the local core group, it would cover any lapse in blogging by any one of us.

So much for that.

I know that the three actual Catholics who blog here are super busy all the time. And HeathenBoy generally prefers to comment on others’ posts. Him being a Heathen and all.

Anyway, I am going to make a sincere and sustained effort to do some blogging here on out. Thinking about commentary on news articles and some exploration of my understanding of the Faith. Also thinking about some Catholic fiction and maybe my own conversion story.

Definitely more to come.

Also, in the next few weeks, I am going to get some new links on the right here and a link where you can buy CatholicManiac merchandise to help support our server and maybe to do some outreach and evangelization projects.

Anyway, since I last posted anything much less anything regularly we have had a LOT of stuff happen in the world of Catholicism and related stuff.

Actually, when you are Catholic, it’s ALL related. But I digress. I plan on hitting some relevant stuff relating to Kerry, Bush, the two Missusses and a bunch of other stuff too. Hopefully going to start doing at least a topic a day. We’ll see.

And of course, the OTHER Maniacs can also pipe in.

Hint… Hint…

It is WAY COOL in my opinion.
