I must say that this is one of the greatest gifts given to us by Our Lord. How can we not show the proper joy at being forgiven by those that he appointed to carry on His word after he departed this world.
I had a wonderful experience with Father Frank of the Franciscan order who was visiting the parish where I attend Mass this weekend who also performed the Sacrament of Reconciliation before mass this weekend on Saturday. He most definately was living in the example of our Lord in my opinion.
I know in the past growing up Catholic there have been some priest that you did not look forward to going into the confessional but I think in a way the Sacrament has evolved from you know you did something wrong and a person has to confess it to be saved from hell to what it was meant to be as a place where you are able to fully feel the love of our Lord as you are forgiven for mistakes you commited. It no longer is a “have to sacrament” that had to be done once a year before the Christmas season. If you have one of those “distasteful” experience’s has I mentioned go to a different priest till you can find one that you do feel comfortable with for this sacrament.
In my opinion do not sit aside one of the greatest gifts that Jesus gave to us to be a once a year sacrament. Use if fully and often to lift the burdens of sin from ourselves and be refreshed in the glory and love of our Lord.
