Questions for you Fric

I checked one of the links, Catholic RageMonkey. 2 things: 1, I didn’t get it. Please ‘splain to me Lucy. 2, they’ve got quite the list of links there. I hadn’t realized the Church community was so active on the web. Have the American bishops or the Vatican or anybody in authority put out any sort of word on all these blogs and sites? Is it a no no, or a cool thing, or just silence, or…? Just curious if there is an official position on the marvels of modern communication within the community of the faithful.

As I understand it, these would be considered lay movements (Catholic RageMonkey aside) that are wholly endorsed by the Pope. He has spoken many times about the need to use technology to evangelize and preach the Gospel. Not all lay groups/activities get canonical aproval which basically means official recognition and other things I don’t understand. Most don’t. I did hear somewhere that you are supposed to get the local Bishop’s approval for anything that uses the word Catholic in the name. Not sure if that is true, but I suppose I should check it out. 🙂

How can you not have realized that the church community was so active on the web? I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and it was the Catholic community (nick-named ‘st blogs’) that got me started. there is a web-ring (click the link at the bottom of my blogroll for more info), a virtual parish hall, and even a fairly quiescent parish cookbook. Check out the Curt Jester for a cool picture of the Pope with his laptop.

Alica, you have to remember that HeathenBoy is not Catholic. That’s why he calls himself HeathenBoy. 🙂 Besides, unless you go looking for this stuff, it doesn’t necessarily pop out at you from MSN.com, Yahoo.com or other popular start pages. We’re bringing HB up to speed. He’s my personal mission in life. Or at least 1 of 2 that is.
